The Origin

A BODEGA,
A DREAM, AND A PAIR OF SHOES

In 1994, Bill and Jane Pietraszek opened a small bodega, Footwear Plus, in Blue Island — a city neighboring Chicago. It wasn't a big operation. But it was theirs. And that meant everything.

As time went on, they moved away from their Blue Island bodega to a new shop in Chicago — Fashion Footwear. But this was only the beginning of the journey.

Bill and Jane shuffled around the city of Chicago, learning and improving as they went along.

The Spot Chicago Story

The Evolution

FROM BLUE ISLAND
TO THE WORLD

From Chicago to Matteson, Bill and Jane kept pushing — refining their vision with every move. At their shop in Matteson, The Spot for Fits and Kicks, they began to grow the family business with the help of their son, Thomas, who built a website from his college apartment while studying at the University of Illinois.

A kid with a laptop and a vision. That website would become the engine that would one day power the entire operation.

Thomas later joined the family business full-time in 2013, with his little sister, Elizabeth, following him a few years later in 2017 and her husband, Luis, in 2020.

The business also wouldn't have been a success without the revolving door of family members who contributed over the last two decades. When family shows up for family — that's when something real gets built.
